Laser skin rejuvenation is an ideal treatment for a number of skin concerns such as;

.  Ageing skin
.  Fine lines and wrinkles
. Brown spots/ pigmentation
. Acne scarring
. Rosacea and redness

IPL - Acne

IPL (intense pulsed light) is a great option for the treatment of acne as it is designed to heal spots, breakouts and congested skin. Active acne is the result of bacteria in your skin enlarging and obstructing your sebaceous glands. Unfortunately it creates unsightly pus filled spots and cysts across the body that are painful to touch, sometimes resulting in scars. Early treatment is necessary to keep acne under control, and to prevent any permanent damage to the skin.

How does IPL work?

The light targets the porphyrins produced by the bacteria that cause the acne, destruction of these porphyrins will produce free oxygen radicals and a bactericidal effect is induced to reduce the acne infection. By heating up the capillaries blood flow is reduced to the sebaceous glands and this decreases the over production of oil in the skin. The heat reaction will also stimulate collagen production to increase healing of the acne lession , often resulting in scar reduction.  IPL had been proven to be extremely effective on moderate inflammatory acne.

How many treatments are recommended?

It is recommended that you have 3 treatments ,  4 weeks apart . In very severe cases more treatments may be recommended.

Optimal results will be acheived when combined with glycolic skin peels.
Depending on the type and severity of the acne,  Skin Solutions Beauty Clinic will tailor a treatment plan to benefit the clients needs.

IPL for pigmentation
Hyperpigmentation occurs when the melanin is overproduced in certain spots on the skin, pigmentation spots such as age spots are caused by sun exposure. For this reason they mainly appear on body parts that are frequently exposed , such as the face, arms and hands. They tend to be small, darkened patches of skin.

How does IPL work?

Age spots and hyper pigmentation contains melanin. The light is absorbed by the melanin in the pigmented area and the heat reaction caused, breaks down the melanin in the keratinocytes. A photo toxic reaction  occurs in the melanin vessels and the excess melanin turns darker before it comes away from the skin. Superficial benign pigmented blemishes such as freckles and sun or age spots in photo rejuvenation sites will generally darken after treatment and then fade or wash off over the next 7-10 days. Improvement in skin texture and reduction of pore size following treatment may also be observed.

It is recommended you have 3 treatments 4 weeks apart, in severe cases more treatments will be advisable.

Optimal results will be acheived when combined with peels.

IPL for rosacea

Rosacea causes reddening of the cheeks, nose and forehead, spider like blood vessels (telangiectasia) and sometimes , pimple like blemishes and inflamed eyes. The cause of rosacea is still being debated, demodex folliculorum mites, which are found in large concentrations in rosacea patients skin is one theory.

How does it work?

The heat from the laser damages the dilated (widened) red veins and causes them to shrink so that they are no longer visible with minimal damage to surrounding tissue. There is also evidence that the light also helps with remodeling of the skin matrix , providing vessels with better support.

A combination of IPL and mild glycolic peels could produce better results in some clients.

IPL for broken capillaries

There can be a number of different causes of broken capillaries, the most common being damage to the skin from irritation , inflammation and repeated exposure to the sun. Genetics, hormones , age and lifestyle factors can also contribute.

How does IPL work?

The laser is attracted to the oxygen in the blood, heating up the capillary walls causes them to break down and be flushed out through the lymphatic system.
